the ones you are looking at are not real pentalobe and I think that is why they strip.
They are torx from looking at the one I have. I believe Ifixit's comes with new screws for this reason.

Just about every electronic device is made in China including most Apple products, so your generalization is way off. The iMac and Motorola's Moto X are going to be among the very few American made electronic products coming out--and that's purely for political reasons.
