Millions of 11 year olds and I rejoiced today. HSM2 soundtrack official release day! :D I've listened to most of it twice after picking it up on the way back from Shands Jax, at Walmart, where it's on sale for $9.72.

The movie drops on the Disney Channel on Friday night. :D

Did you know, that in 2006, the soundtrack to High School Musical was the top selling album in the US, with sales of 3.7M, beating out Carrie Underwood, Beyoncé, the Chicks, and even Disney's own Ms. Hannah Montana's first album. :)

I didn't even know what this was for a while  my sister had a poster on her wall, I thought it was some kind of joke. Then it was on TV :(:(

My wife volunteered our house for a HSM2 party Friday night.

Mmmmm... :)

I'll have to content myself with a couple of songs on the way to the hospital. :)

P.S. Did you know that the last time a television soundtrack hit number one in US album sales, it was Miami Vice in the 1980s. :)

I'm horrified for the American music buying public.

Get your s*** in gear people

Most of the people buying it don't want to listen to it and the people listening to it don't really hear how bad it is because they're looking at someone on the packaging and planning their future from that. :D

I am so pumped. Seriously I got asked if I wanted to see Rush Hour 3 this Friday and I turned it down because there is no way I am missing the premier.

I am a huge DCOM fan.

Johnny Tsunami
Johnny Tsunami Back on Board
Right on Track
Miracle in Lane 2
Color of Friendship
A Ring of Endless Light
The 13th Year
T*witches (probably one of the worst, I laughed my @$$ off when ever it was suppoesd to be emotional)
Cheetah Girls (1 & 2)
Don't look under the bed
etc

They're all so great, even if they are bad

I can't stand anything on the disney channel. They're movies that make it to theater aren't bad, but everything else is.

That said, My brother and my sisters are all fans of it.

Sweet! We're doing sushi / happy hour Friday evening. We're going tubing or kayaking Saturday morning, though, so I'm going to want my rest. That and this combined means that unless something is très interessant, I will go home after sushi and watch HSM2 DVR-delayed. :)

Here's an extra bonus if you got love. :p I made this Humuhumunukunukuapua'a ringtone for my Blackberry. It's a zip file because of QuickShareIt's limitations... the MP3 is 220kb if that affects whether your phone can handle it or not. :) Also another one from You Are The Music In Me (465kb unzipped)

Coverage today in the LA times... Apparently the CD single that was released debuted at #1 on soundscan by the time the album came out Tuesday. And 160 million people worldwide have seen HSM. :)

'High School Musical': By the numbers
160 Million: People worldwide who have watched "High School Musical"
7.9 million: DVDs sold
7 million: Soundtracks sold
4.5 million: Books sold
500,000: Downloads of lyrics for a sing-along telecast
2,000: School and community theater productions
16: Number of global markets where the premiere telecast ranked No. 1 in its time slot

That is nuts. I really wonder if Disney knew what it had before they released it, or if HSM was just a throwaway movie to garner some average-above average ratings.

I tend to think they cleverly orchestrated it. They dovetailed Ashley Tisdale's solo career with just the right timing. But I also think they got lucky. Kids literally were watching that movie like 10-15 times! There are not a lot of 12 year olds in the US who don't know the lyrics to it by heart.

I hope I am not subjected to these bad disney songs/vids while I am working at disney world.

I really can't stand much of what is on the disney channel/radio. I like a lot of the movies (mostly animated and older movies such as "That Darn Cat").

Yeah, but Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior doesn't seem to have done nearly as well.

I took a look at the HSM/HSM2 wikis, and all I can think is "What hath God wrought?"

I am so glad I have never heard of any of this crap before.

Seriously, you are -1000 pts for owning this album.

Haha, yes, I'm very concerned about my score on your system.

I loved it! Maybe even more than the first one. The baseball scene was amazing. Ryan (Lucas Gabreel) in general was really great.

Ahhh, we'll definitely have fun with this one at camp. :)

I actually turned down a weekend trip to my friends house in Vermont and an invitation to see rush hour III to watch this movie.

I thought it was pretty good, not as good as the first though. It was pretty predictable and I didn't like how varied the music styles were.

I laughed hysterically when Troy turned all emo and was leaping around the golf course. It kinda reminded me of the Lion King, and so did a song that sounded like "can you feel the love tonight" in the beginning.

I also noticed Myle Stewert/Cyrus aka Hannah Montana is an extra in the staff party at the end of the movie.

I also liked how Ryan wasn't a complete idiot and not nearly as flamboyant. I hate all the hats that the kids wear, they're so weird.
