High Sierra removed all the items from my login list.

It was odd, cuz they were there and loaded per usual on the first boot after installation, maybe more than one boot. But then POOF!, gone. This occurred on both a laptop and desktop.

And then it added something I hadn't seen in years. Go figure.

I also had a terrible time with Safari, and haven't yet worked that out, although it might relate to hand off. Still working on that one.

So take a screen shot of your login list every once in a while in case you need to restore them to the login list.

Yup. Pissed me off. I happened to have a screenshot of mine so I recreated it but daaamm...

Yeah, it's a pain cuz some of 'em are hidden helpers and what not for other applications. Wish there was a better way to get a list than a screen shot.

Any idea why this happens? I've got a few to add (total clean install) and would like to nip it preemptively.

My guess would be that if the OS detects something with a suspicious security setting it deletes all of them (well, not delete; I suspect it just tosses whatever plist contains the list itself). Rather than just rewrite the plist with the offending item only removed. I think there's a com.apple.loginwindow.plist in both the root library and user library, but I'm not sure.

Have you noticed any folders in /Library or ~/Library that have been tagged (Disabled)?

It is disturbing behavior nonetheless. Never seen this before. And the items it is taking out are utterly harmless. It almost feels like a virus behavior.

Those are big folders, and some subfolders have such names. But I don't know that's there's an actual folder where login items reside, maybe more of a list.

For user-specific login items (accessible from System Prefs / Accounts), I think you're right. I was just wondering about the Library folders - sometimes you'll get the system disabling other things in LaunchAgents, LaunchDaemons, and StartupItems.

Hi. I'm relatively new to the Mac and have owned a MBP for about 2 months.
This morning I found my list of login items empty. I don't know if this is from the upgrade to High Sierra or something else.
Is there a way to restore this?
Thanks

On mine the daemons and agents were still populated with all sorts of things. Just the login items went for a powder.

My Login Items were not changed with the upgrade to 10.13 on 4 different computers. I'm glad I looked; I still had some old stuff in there that I don't have installed anymore.

It gets worse too. I actually can't re-add login items, because System Preferences will freeze. I've also had Finder lock up constantly, which blocks my ability to logout or restart the computer. I've relaunched Finder a couple times, with mixed results. Sometimes this will get everything working again, sometimes it will crash the computer.

I've never had a OSX / MacOS update that was this buggy before! I seriously regret the upgrade right now.

this messed with my start up items too, what the heck.

the other thing i notice is i can add and delete start up items without unlocking the padlock icon. i thought that was suppose to prevent change being made.

not sure if this is a bug or just my unit but i am bummed cause i use vanilla to hide my items up there so i'm not sure what apps used to be in the list.

also, removing an app from the start up list doesn't seem to actually prevent it from starting up, might have to reset the plist which is a hassle cause i need to find out which plist do i trash
