Hey everyone,

Last night, as I put my mac to sleep, everything was fine. When I woke up this morning my macbook's fan was going crazy. As I checked the system monitor, for some reason the user usage is at a minimum of 50% even when I turn off all active programs. I don't understand how this happened. If anyone has any ideas, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Set Show to All Processes, and sort the list on %CPU. What's using CPU?

That's the strange thing, no process is taking more than 6% (activity monitor) and yet my computer is going crazy. Looking at istat pro, it says that my system usage is pretty normal, usually less than 10%, but my user usage is set at 50%+. I'm wondering if my macbook is about to melt down.

Are you showing "All processes" (the drop down list with "Show" under it, at the top)?

Alternatively, open terminal and type top

Ah, ic. It seemed as though there was a print job that was hanging up the system. Thank you so much for all your help plinden. I was just about to take it to my apple store.
