I'm looking at the clearance/refurb availability, and see 32GB, 2.4, 2TB SSD, 8GB 5500M hundreds below retail, and am tempted to make the plunge. I do lots of work in Photoshop, iMovie, used to use Premiere/After Effects but find them to be overkill. Do lots of pano photo merges, 12 shots, full frame D810 raw, etc., which isn't much compared to some who are more expert at focus stacking, etc.

The screen, vs the iMac, also a consideration: is color rendered equally well on the 21" iMac vs the 16" MBP, and is the bump in video memory (8 vs 4) more about viewing, or rendering video? Not sure, but I do print and web publication of photos, etc., so color rendering is important.

My 2011 iMac needs the video card replaced. A nice forum member sold me one, I have not installed it yet, as it is a 'project', and time is short right now. In any event: is buying now wise, and the higher spec, or is something on the horizon in two months I am unaware about?

Thanks for contributing any input! Cheers.

If there’s anything coming out in the next 2 months, it’ll probably be announced at the WWDC keynote. I believe this keynote will be on the 20th.

Now I'm even more confused. Some not crazy about the Apple chip, I have no idea if it'd matter that much, but looking at the 32 GB 2 TB 2.4 vs a basic machine, doing some video editing, lots of photomerges in Photoshop, e.g., 16+ 100MB raw files, etc., can the basic 16 GB 2.3 with 4GB card handle it? I'd use the $1K savings to pay for AC, doubles, and an external.
