Does the upgraded keyboard with the numeric keypad -of the new 24" iMac- have highlighted backlit buttons?

What on earth is Apple thinking about? Backlit buttons is a great feature, most of the users work in environments with low lighting conditions... its so helpfull to have this feature!!!

They require more battery power, which makes the keyboard thicker, which Apple simply doesn't like to do with any product, let alone a stand-alone keyboard.

I am not sure that "most of the users work in environments with low lighting conditions". It's just not true... my home office and my office at work both are well lit environments - office LED lighting, natural lighting, etc ... there may be folks who like to work in the dark, but I'd be hard pressed to include "most" users in that category.

When using my iMac after sunset, I don’t have the lights at home fully open.

While I like the fact that my MacBook Pro keyboard and external Logitech MX Keys keyboard have backlighting, I find that the light coming from the screen(s) is enough to illuminate the keyboard for the few times I actually have to look at it. I'm old enough to have taken a typing class way back in highschool, so the need to actually look at keys is few and far between for me.
