I'm having stability issues on a new Highpoint Rocketu 1144d. Has anyone seen anything like this, or does anyone have any advice? (I have a support ticket open with Highpoint, too.)

1. Intermittent disconnection
Seems to happen often just after startup, but also whenever. Once the drive has disconnected it is not visible at all in System Profiler, even when I re-plug the USB cable.

2. Intermittent I/O errors
Finder error code -50, or in Disk Utility com.appleDiskManagement error 5.
Also happens intermittently, and once I've had such an error the Mac fails to shut down without a hard reset.

3. Connection at USB 2 speeds
480Mbps reported in System Profiler, instead of 5Gbps.

System details
cMP 4,1 -> flashed to 5,1
10.12.5

External drive details
#1 and #2 (disconnection and errors) appear to only happen with 2* Transcend USB3 3.5" enclosures, housing different drives:
. Seagate Desktop HDD.15, ST4000DM000-1F2168
. Western Digital Green, WD40EZRX-22SPEB0

If one of the Transcend drives spontaneously disconnects, the other always reports errors.

#3 appears to happen with all drives tried, beyond the above two:
. Verbatim USB3 3.5" containing Toshiba DT01ACA300
. LaCie rugged USB3/FW 2.5"

Things I've tried/notes
Moving slots: no change.

Removing all other cards except for stock GT120 video card: no change.

USB ports on the card seem to offer different results: port 4 (further from the PCI slot) often only connects at 480Mbps, for the rest this is rarer.

All drives and cables are known-good: they work fine in other Macs (and in the Caldigit Fasta 6GU3 (original) that was in this system prior).

There are no drivers provided for this card; it is meant to work natively in 10.9+.

One strange driver note is that the System Profiler PCI section shows the card as with driver installed under each USB port (showing USB eXtensible host controller), but there is a fifth entry showing no driver installed:

Help or ideas would be most appreciated!
