Hey there,

I recently noticed that hiking workouts (tracked in the Training app on the Ultra) are not counted towards the cardio fitness parameter in Health. The other activities, walk and run outdoor, are working in order to show the cardio fitness.
Can anybody confirm this?

If you’re talking about the feature where the Watch measures VO2max to determine cardio fitness, this only works for outdoor walks and runs. The reason for this is the algorithm only works correctly for walking/running at a steady pace on level ground.

Hiking introduces elevation changes and a lot of other variables that prevent accurate measurements.

I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Unlike other very accurate measurements taken like heart rate and sleep data, Apple’s calculated VO2max estimate using their algorithm isn’t very accurate in the first place.

I’ve always just used walking mode. Yes your pace will show as slow but that doesn’t really matter because YOU know what you did. So if you want to track things try that.
