Do they always say it at a special event or Mac conference? Will we wake up and find the date suddenly on their site? I was just wondering how previous OS X iterations have been announced.

Also looking into the past, which if any versions of OS X were introduced with any sort of a hardware update simultaneously?

I can't be sure that it never happened, but I can't remember its ever happening. The take away message is that you should not expect a simultaneous OS release/hardware update.

Discouraging. It sure seems like a simultaneous Leopard introduction and Mac Pro redesign or refresh would be a good combination.
