I remember getting my iPhone 4 on launch day, finding out about the finger on the band thing and claiming my free bumper that I never used. I recall that was the first time (to much fanfare) they used the entire outside band of the device as an antenna, split in two, with one as the cellular and the other for Bluetooth/wifi.

That leads me to to today, where the 17 Pro was introduced with an apparently whole new system, but is this simply because they a.) can’t use the bands on the outside as the whole thing is aluminium and b.) because there’s no longer glass on the back signals can’t pass through.

In other words, is this actually going to be an improvement running the aerials around the camera bump like that or merely a solution to an issue caused by using an aluminium unibody?

Pure conjecture here, but with the full aluminum plateau, it gave them a natural area to add a whole lot more antennae in a natural, almost invisible way. Why not take advantage of that.

Yeah that was my assumption too, but given they claimed they used to use the entire outside edge as an antenna then wouldn’t the aerial only being there be a downgrade?
