I bought some Hitachi disks recently. I bought them because ATTO said they supported this specific hard disk. They are UltraStar 3TB. Model No. HUA723030ALA640
The disks arrived and while they have the right model number (HUA723030ALA640) the label states they are 3Gb/s disks, while Hitachi data sheet states HUA723030ALA640 are 6Gb/s disk.
I am kind of confused and wondered if anybody here had any ideas why the same Hitachi model number would produce different drives. The disks also have a date of DEC-2011, which is also strange since these are supposed to be new drives. Do Hitachi reuse model numbers?
Will this make a huge difference in speed. I am building a 4 drive internal raid 6 array using an ATTO R644 inside of Early 2008 Mac Pro.
I am also looking for a good source for a mini-SAS extender. I am in the SF Bay area and would like to buy retail on monday, but am having a hard time working ut which cable I need.
Since the card is going into the bottom x8 slot I wonder if I even need an extender to connect the internal backplane to the ATTO card.
