Besides the rumored voice controls in iOS 5, I see there aren't any widget stuff in iOS5....EXCEPT FOR ONCE PLACE.

When you pull down the notification center, there's two widgets ---> stock and weather widgets. Wonder why nobody said anything about widgets?

They did. Watch the Keynote.

Because Apple, like me, find widgets to be battery draining mostly useless features.

The only widget that is worth having is weather but in the notifcation center was not bright, maybe on the lock screen where you can actually see it quickly.

So your wondering why the things that were only rumored by people with no insider information didn't come true?

I do agree that would have made a lot more sense.

Push notifications largely replace the need to widgets. Glanceable information is what is really needed.

My guess is they open up the widget API once they iron out the bugs (for the notifications screen and perhaps lock screen).

...Widgets are supposed to give glanceable information

There's just those two widgets in the notification center, which nobody seemed to bring up. It's kind of weird how they are put in the Notif Center.

They probably will open up the widget API later (THEY SHOULD.)

Maybe in later betas we will see this?

I believe the Stocks and Weather 'widget's will pave the way for any 'widgets' on iOS. Expect to see only a few though.

I'm sure developers will have access to APIs to add widget-like functionality to the N.C.

If you pay careful attention, that weather and stock widget appear to not be running "all the time". When you first pull down the NC those two widget areas are blank for a brief moment. Either that's a serious redraw delay or they are simply not running until the NC is pulled down. If the latter is the case (and it likely is) then the "widgets are a battery drain" argument is largely nullified and we'll probably see third-party apps with widget capability. You don't see them yet because, hell, the iOS 5.0 API has been available for a day!

Not in nc

Nooooo. I do not want to see more widgets in the NC. Or else it will end up with having to scroll past all the widgets before you even gets to the notifications.

I want to see widgets elsewhere.....like in the lockscreen (although that would be giving away certain info to people who pick up ur device) or in the app screens.

In this video, the weather and stock widgets appear below any notifications in the Notification Center.

Maybe for you since you never had notifications before. Widgets come in handy whether you think so or not. Steve just dont like to give you too much at once.

I believe you scroll up to get the widgets, when you open NC, the notifications show first. They are above, not on top. Like the search box in the music/ipod app. The above video shows them below all of the notifications, so it is possible that it is adjustable or the notification window can spin in circles.

Can they be disabled?

Someone mentioned they can be disabled through the notification settings for each app.
