Anyone else change their shipment to be picked up at a local FedEx location?

I did yesterday, and the details still read "Hold at FedEx location request received". I wonder if that means it can be done, or it can't be done, and how long they will take to tell me either way.

I was looking into doing that as the fedex facility that my iPad will come from is only a few miles away however this scares me

"FedEx does not guarantee that the request can be fulfilled, but will attempt to have your shipment available for pickup the next business day after the estimated delivery date."

Yup. I was going to do it so that I could drive to FedEx after work and pick it up. But it sounds like I might not even be able to pick it up on Friday.

Here's how it normally works for FedEx (and UPS): They will make the first delivery attempt (in this case, Friday). Then, if you are not home to accept delivery, it will return to the local FedEx (or UPS) sort facility and will be available for pickup the next day (in this case, Saturday).

I think you are better off getting it delivered.

Scares you? Just leave the pre-authorized sig wherever it was suppose to be delivered. Or just wait until 6p that day and go back to the hub to pick it up. It's only a several hours and several miles. Mine is getting delivered at my personal mail box.

I'm thinking of about this too, not for any reason that you may think. I get much of my packages held at the FedEx hub and the employees there have a special box labeled just for me in their secured room, away from the rest of the packages. They usually like seeing me once a week to chat and gossip or whatnot. I'm always the first to be helped and once I'm seen entering, they go to the back and get my package(s). So, they pretty much could do me any favor I could ask them.

Ah crap I didn't even see that! Now I've already entered the request to a FedEx location near my work... If I have to wait until Monday I'm gonna be ticked...

You are WRONG, the ipad 3 is getting delivered via express delivery, NOT ground, which means that the package can be picked up the SAME day if u were not available at the time of delivery. you need to call fedex and they will tell u when the delivery man returns to the facility.

Apple requires signatures on FedEx deliveries. Also, note that I said normally, not always (as in, there are exceptions to the rule). You don't need to type in CAPS to me. Also, if you want to get all technical, YOU are WRONG. It says right here that it's not until the next business day: http://www.fedex.com/us/services/hold_at_location_explore_options.html

maybe it says but i called fedex and she clearly told to me, if its ground, then no you cant pick it up, if its express then yes you CAN pick it up the same day.

I called as well just now, they told me it should be available at my specified location no later than 3pm on Friday.

it says the next business day, so why would I want to take that chance? what you are saying is a missed delivery and you go back and pick it up after the truck brings it back.

I'll be home so waiting on the truck is not an issue, its much easier to just go pick it up and get going with my day.

I did that when the IPad 1 came out and showed up when they opened 9 and grabbed it right away. That's the way to go I dont like leaving things of that value on my porch.

dont take chances, just wait for the delivery attempt, if u dont get it delivered, call fedex tell them u wanna pick it up. they will tell u what time the delivery man comes back to the facility and then u can go pick it up, they close at 8pm i think , end of story man, its simple. im gonna do that if i cant receive the delivery.

will yours be kept at the sorting station it would have been at anyway or is it being sent to another location?

I've had held packages available for pickup the morning of the day it was supposed to be delivered. I suspect it depends on what kind of facility you're having it held at and how much of the sorting they do there, how early you requested the hold, and if the package would have gone through that facility anyway.

Anyway, tracking will show the hold for pickup requested message until it arrives at the facility, then it'll (hopefully) change to held for pickup.

One Friday afternoon, I checked on the status of an Apple product order from work and saw a delivery failure. My local FedEx office closes at 6:00. I called them and asked if I could pick it up. They had to check if the driver was back from his delivery route. He was. I drove there and picked it up.

Nothing to be sceert about.
