Apple literally just invented 4K and HDR, did you guys see that? They are really pushing the boundrys of television. I'm so glad they could compare themselves now finally to the invention of television and the colour TV itself.

I did find myself wondering what year this was. Now I'm just ready for them to invent HD audio or audio passthrough. Sigh.

There is a reason why Roku sells a lot more boxes but I'm sure Apple thinks if they can sell one box for every two Rokus, they did okay money wise, lol. I better put in my order for a 64 Gig box since it will be my last.

I'll be happy with the dozens or hundreds of free 4K upgrades I'll be getting.

Oh, absolutely, and I don't think anyone is downplaying that. Don't you agree, though, that it was more than a bit weird for Apple to talk about 4K and HDR as though they were new to the world?

Because to their older/wealthier audience, they are new to the world.

Go ask your mom what 4K HDR is. Go ask your grandfather the last time he saw a 4K HDR movie on HBO. Apple is cutting edge and innovative, but just as important Apple is smart enough to avoid being early to a game on occasion too, especially where there isn't enough content and would leave customers frustrated.

I'm a tech savvy 50 year old and I'm just getting my first 4K TV tomorrow. I don't think I've missed anything by having a 1080p Apple TV for the past two years. Drone videos and closeups of snakes might impress my friends for 5 minutes, but ultimately it is a matter of being able to watch 100% of the content you enjoy in a great format. It took good ol' HD 10 years to get to that critical mass. 4K is not even at 5% yet. Wake me when the NFL broadcasts all games in 4K. Wake me when my regional MLB and NHL teams take 4K seriously. Until then, no, I'm not missing out on anything because some movie I've seen 100 times in beautiful 1080p is a little crisper. Zzzzzz.

They were smart to wait for the HDR dust to settle show me how many streamers support both HDR10 and Dolby vision, its the HDR that makes the biggest difference not the resolution

Apple doesn't invent these things. When ready they deliver well thought out "things' better. Beside, its not them being full of themselves, its sales and marketing. The same way VHS won out over Beta Max and Blue Ray won out over HD (and Win16 won out over OS2).

I'm not a blind consumer. I'm a professional developer that doesn't want to futs with my consumer gadgets. I rarely even look at anything non-Apple. Does that make me ignorant or a consumer that has high faith on my vendor? Besides, the majority doesn't even have (or care about) 4k and won't for years. Apple may or may not be #1 but they are in the top 1-3 world wide. Yeah, I'd be confident in myself too if I ran that ship. But hey, work yourself up over nothing.. :)

Only geeks like us know what 4k HDR is. Thats why I'm so miserable all the time, surrounded by buffoons. :D
