I am in the process of building a home built "ViDock" as described in this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=5371025#post5371025
I will be hooking it up to my 15" MBP 4.1
My question is for anybody who may have had experience with the ViDock or possibly built their own.
After talking with the ViDock staff I was told that you can only use "mac blessed" video cards such as the nVidia GT 120 and Radeon 2600 XT and possibly the new Radeon HD 4870 with a MBP.
My question is, would a normal radeon 4870 be recognized by a Mac. Such as this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121291
This one varies from the one sold on apples website in that it has dual DVI and 1 GB memory vs apples 4870 that has one DVI and 512 mb memory. Plus the about $200 savings.
I would assume if you could get the Asus 4870 or any other 4870 to work on a Mac Pro you could get it to work with a MBP.
Second question: What about other video cards such as a nVidia GTX 285? Would this not work because there are no OSx drivers for it?
