Home Button does not work when connected

I have two 3g black 16's and one of them does not go back to the home screen when connected. I tried restoring it to factory. Upgraded 2.0 to 2.1 with the same result. Any help/advise please. This is already an exchanged phone. The previous one was ok but the silent switch would not click down.
