"Home" Button Shortcut in Mail (OS X Lion)

I was wondering if anyone knew what the home button shortcut was for Apple Mail? In Safari I can move to the top or bottom of a page instantly with Cmd + Up/Down.

This same keyboard shortcut does not work in Mail, it only moves up or down one message. Similarly, this shortcut does not appear to work in any MS Office applications, so I'd appreciate any help with that or other programs as well.
