When I have no notifications on my home screen, then I can see the time and background wallpaper. But when I have at least one message, the background wallpaper gets greyed out and the entire screen gets a grey background.

My guess is that is so that the messages can be easily seen / read.

But is there a way to keep the background transparent so that the grey background doesn't appear when messages arrive? (Something similar to the attached image.)

Perhaps with some jailbreak tweak, but not with just stock iOS.
