I am trying to get an ipod touch to share my library on my mac. It's almost all home ripped not itunes bought music. I have set up the home sharing with my Apple ID on my mac and ipod, all looks good it shows up in the sharing but when I click on my library it loads halfway then stops. I've tried rebooting and searched the web for a solution but nothing mentions this. Can't work it out at all.

Is Home Sharing only meant for store bought music?

I have a decent size iTunes library with mostly CD and DVD ripped media. Home share is incredibly slow to load on the household iPad 3 and hangs frequently while loading. Sometime halfway and other times closer to ninety percent. Just backing out and trying again usually eventually gets it to work. Playback will start sometimes and just stop.

No issues with the Apple TV's, 2013 Macbook Air or Hackintosh.

The library is stored on an external USB 2.0 HDD running through a 2011 iMac for reference.

I know I'm not offering a solution, but I know the symptom you're describing.

Thank you for posting this.
I've got a metric buttload of music, audiobooks and DVDs with probably 90% ripped.

I found it takes about 15 minutes for that little circle to fully complete on an iPad, it never has on an iPod no matter how long I give it, and is just fine on the Macs and the Apple TVs.
