My wife just had a baby yay! The fun part is that she's my office manager.
As a stay-at-home mom, she wants to be able to run our dental practice management software from home. We don't want to use screen-sharing for this purpose.

However I do want to be able to have the convenience of Back-to-my-Mac file and screen sharing for some of the workstations.

What I've found is that the VPN on the 10.8 server interferes (uses the same ports?) with Back to my Mac.

Is there a way to have Back to my Mac functionality with some workstations AND use VPN to the server so we can run our app at home and use the data on the server?

Work:
Static IP address
Airport Base Station
10.8 server
twelve workstations (10.8)

Home:
Airport Base Station
Mac Pro (Mavericks)
MacBook Pro (Mavericks)

Edit:
Oops, I meant VPN not VNC

Does Teamviewer or gotomypc fit the bill?

I use gotomypc to remote into my work computer, instead of VNC. For me VNC was causing too many headaches.

Would Teamviewer allow me to run my Dental App on my home computer using data remotely? Or is it just for screen sharing?

Edit:

I tried Teamviewer and it seems it's just a more complicated form of screen sharing. This may work to replace part of Back to my Mac functionality, but it doesn't seem to have file sharing like BTMM does in Finder.

I'll try to see if VPN and Teamviewer work together.
