Looking at getting a smart lock. We don't really use HomeKit too much, and the devices we do have are WiFi enabled (TV, Ecobee, etc.). However, I've read that when using HomeKit with bluetooth-only devices, the device's proximity to the HomeKit hub is a consideration. Right now, our only HomeKit hub is a HomePod Mini in our bedroom, which is probably about 40 feet away through a few walls. If we get a HomeKit-compatible lock that only has BT and not WiFi, I'm wondering if that will be an issue. We do have a couple of iPads around the house that we could also set up as hubs, but there's never any guarantee that they will be any closer than the HomePod Mini, if they happen to be in the house at all at the time. (Especially considering the time we'd want to lock/unlock remotely would be when we're away from the house.)

Any insight into whether the 40-ft distance between a potential smart lock and the HomePod Mini will be an issue?

I wish we went with the August wifi lock over going with the Schlage we used when we had smarthigns. they are simple and worth with bluetooth locations.
