I'm trying to set up an automation or scene through Homekit to adjust the temperatue on my Google Nest thermostat so that when I leave home or arrive home, it changes the thermostat accordingly. In Homekit, when the automation or scene is invoked, the temperatue displayed in the Homekit app changes for an instant, then it goes back to the previous temperature. I've tried it numerous times with the same results. I'm able to adjust the temp manually and it sticks, but not so when done in a scene or automation. I've removed and re-aded the scene and/or automation several times.

Try the eve app, it's free, and is a second frontend for homekit. Ties into the same backend that the home app ties into, changes made in one will show in the other. Eve also has a few extra options for making automations. You can add conditions, You can do the same with shortcuts, but eve makes it a bit more streamlined.

in their scenes screens, you can add/remove individual parameters. and see what they're set at. For example, you could make a scene that adjusts the brightness of bulbs but doesn't change the color, or turn them on if they're not already on. Scenes in eve are under automation for some reason.

I don't know the specifics of nest, but is there an automatic mode or something similar? it may be possible that an extra characteristic is being set by your scene, that you don't want to be changed.

I've discovered that if I set up a Homekit scene that turns the thermostat off while I'm away, and then turns it back on when I return, it works fine. These new "off/on" scenes replace the scenes that failed when trying to adjust the home and away temperatures. Seems odd that the on/off scenes work perfectly, but the temperature adjustment scenes failed. I can live with this workaround.
