So I have my first Homepod 2 and have a second one on order so I can stereo pair them. Does anyone know if you can get a longer cable for them? My second one won't quite reach my surge protectors unless I do some major redecorating.

Do I just search for "standard figure 8" on Amazon? Any voltage/amperage etc to look out for?

Maybe something like this?

Is there an official cord that is longer? I can't make a second one work. The cable is way too short.

How the heck have people been able to use these in stereo pair? My last house and current house must have been put together poorly as there isn't even a second outlet. How much of a risk is this? I guess it would be better to get an electrician out here for another outlet be created?

It’s not polarized, instead of figure 8 polarized is square/circle. There’s an alignment notch on the Apple cable but that’s not for polarity. There’s tons of figure 8 cables to choose from on Amazon. Just like an Apple TV or Mac mini, any will work if you need a longer one. Don’t overthink it. Apple went to a detachable cable with a standard plug for a reason.

Should I be worrying about the risks?

I don’t think there’s any risk, period. I’m an Apple Certified Technician, this is my own opinion based on experience and training, and I’ve swapped the same figure 8 power cords for longer ones or right angle ones on Mac minis, Apple TV’s, televisions and sound bars MANY times, never an issue. I always prefer a first party solution when possible, but Apple went away from a built-in cable for a reason. And made it non-proprietary for a reason.

Is the one I linked earlier good enough you think? They do have different volts/amps for these cables so they are not all the same. Is there something I should look for?

The one you linked looks perfect. It’s UL rated so it’s safe, and if it can handle the amperage of a PS5 it’ll do just fine with a HomePod. I only mention amperage because you brought it up, the HomePod isn’t going to have a huge power draw.

These cables are like printer and monitor cables, there is nothing proprietary about them to cause damage. I would just buy one made by a reputable non-OEM brand and not some Alibaba quality one.

I’d imagine the power control unit is inside, much like the brick on a PC laptop cord with the brick halfway down the cord

This is perfect. The only difference with a non-oem cable is it may not lock in as nicely and so could be dislodged a bit easier. But realistically not a big issue unless you’ve got children or pets running around behind the speaker.

Extension cords are not good for permanent use. They should only be used temporarily.

Hey, any updates with this cable for your HomePod? Did this one work good? I'm going to need a longer cable myself.

How long until we see the $100 “audiophile” power cords hit the market? 😂

theyre already here. In the music world "high-end" IEC power cords have been on the market for about 10yrs... theyre just medical graded heavy duty cables and marketeering on a buzz-word.

these 'figure 8' connectors are IEC C7 connectors. here are the different sizes/names:

if you can't find longer cords online, you can also look under "printer power cords" or IEC C7 cable for similar long reach cords. They are standardized and rated to 250V/2.5A (worldwide) and 125v/10amps in US (way more than HomePod would draw)

No matter the source make sure they're UL rated and not counterfeit online junk. 👍
