You might have read about the HomePod 2 putting what amounts to coffee cup stains on the surfaces they rest on. I can confirm that, this is the right hand HomePod 2 which, for now, sits on the top of my Lenovo Micro Desktop. The marks wipe right off. This is a chemical thing from whatever flavor of Silicon Apple is using for the base on these HomePod number 2's.

This was an issue with the OGs as well. I bought these rubber type bases from Amazon and haven’t had this issue.
Edit* Just wanted to add that these bases are relatively heavy, thick and of good quality. Also very minimalistic in appearance. They flow with the HomePod and look like they’re a part of it. The center is slightly convex and allow the base of the actual HomePod to sit nicely on it.
Edit 2* and that said… they’re currently unavailable lol 🤦♂️ however they do mention the white ring issue in their photos.

Interesting, I didn't realize this problem was still present on the 2nd gen model. Definitely some reaction between the wood and silicone base. I'd recommend a thin plastic sheen over the silicone or a rubber base like suggested above, anything that won't make it too slippy but still keeps the silicone from touching the table.
This is what I have coming The all aluminium AutoSonic Stand. My audio friends all tell me these HomePods do best at eye level. The photo below seems to show the base hovering but in reality the base sits flush on the desk top. One of the things mentioned in its reviews is it keeps the HomePod above the desktop away from beverage spills.

Is this worse with the white one v midnight one? I seem to recall it being a bigger problem with white ones. I have a gray gen 1 and never experienced this.
