I cant get siri to play music in all rooms she says playing music everywhere but doesn’t do it?

Can you confirm the following to see if anything stands out...
Are both HomePods appearing on the Home App?
Are they on the same firmware?
Are they on the same SSID of your home wifi?
Are they both set up with the same Apple ID?

1) both HomePods are seen in the homeapp
2) I don’t know how to update the homepods
3)they are both on the same wifi. Sorry to sound stupid but what is ssid?
4)they are both on the same apple id

stumpybloke: ive used both the commands play music “everywhere” and play music “on all speakers “
It will confirm that it is playing “everywhere” and say “now playing on living room home pod and on kitchen homepod” BUT will only play on the one i issued commands to

thanks for your help

A bit (lots) more information will be helpful. What commands are you using, to start with.
Ive used the commands play “everywhere “ and play in living room and kitchen” It will say now playing everywhere but only play on the speaker im talking to

have you tried the "old fashioned" way and used your fingers on your phone?
does it work that way?

what is ssid?
Service Set Identifier -
just a fancy name for the wireless network name.
knew it was the name, but I actually had to look up what it actually stood for.

I don’t know how to update the homepods
in the home app click the little house in the top left
then "home settings"
on that screen there's a software update section.
you can also enable/disable automatic updates in that section if you want

Both HomePods are up to date. Both are on the same wifi network.

in the control center on your phone, if you go to the airplay menu do you see both HomePods as targets?

if you then expand the "other devices" section, and choose one of the hompods, do you see the other homepod as a target?

I have the same issue with my two HomePod minis and one HomePod. I tried resetting, delete and add again. They are all up to date and in the same network. In the App it shows that they are playing and also the lights on the HomePods are on but no sound except from the one I gave the command to which plays normally. Sometimes one may start playing like the connection is broken and then stops again. Any solutions yet?

I have had the same problem, and at one point, it went away after an iOS update. But it is back with the 15.1 update.

I have removed both the mini and the 2 HomePods from the Home app, reset them all, but the HomePods will still not play 'everywhere' to the mini.

They are all in the on the same network; however, the Mini is on a separate node of a mesh network. Works some months...then after an update often reverts to the behavior of different music playing on the Mini than the HomePods.

I seem to have to reset often after iOS updates. It makes me dread updates.

Update with another date point: I just tried playing music from the (Catalina) iMac upstairs. I can select all of the HomePods...and they all are airplaying just fine from the iMac. But I cannot get the HomePods to include the Mini in 'everywhere'.

The solution for me was to upgrade my internet line. Since I had too many objects connected to my network (also my cameras started not loading correctly) I decided to get a faster line and since then the HomePods are working fine together.

As a test, you can could try creating a Zone, like "All Over"which includes all rooms with HomePods. Then use, "Hey Siri, play music all over."

I thought about that at one point, but I would think that I would see the issue pretty often. In my case, it will work fine for a long time, and then I will have this one specific issue. But your point is taken -- I do have a lot more connected devices (and one that chat amongst themselves!

So interestingly enough....that may have been the solution! I had to add zones on the Mac - couldn't figure out how to do it on the iPhone. I did it before work, tried it and it worked. And tonight worked again. So maybe this is fixed! Weird that playing 'everywhere' wouldn't include the Mini, but playing to Zone that included them all changed the behavior!

What helped in my case was to restart the Wi-Fi... I could play to each of the HomePods individually but not simultaneously. Probably they didn't know each other's MAC address (?). Confusingly, I got not visual feedback from my iPhone that something was wrong. But on my MacBook I could see that one of them produced en exclamation mark in the airplay icon.
