Hi Guys,
I have an Apple TV, Roku and Firestick all connected to my TV using a separate HDMI ports. For sound, I use the TV speakers and use the TV HDMI switching to select which device I use. All pretty straightforward and works well.

I've been waiting for the HomePod to upgrade my sound. Clearly the Apple TV is easy to use with HomePod but I'm not sure how to route sound to it from my Roku & Firestick. My TV has an Optical out, which may be part of the solution.

Does anyone have any suggestions how to seamlessly route sound from non-apple device to HomePod?

Thanks,
Tom

There isn't one. Ecosystem lock in.

I would suggest everyone refrain from using "HomePod" and "TV" in the same sentence.

Hi ... not quite so fast. I have discovered a solution albeit a bit "kludgy."

I have a fairly old Mac Mini and if I use Airfoil, I can take an audio optical input and direct it to airplay speakers. Seems to work well, but means dedicating an OS X device to being an audio router. Was hoping to get a $50 airplay transmitter.

Oh well.
