This is a good one.

My other half was just cleaning the windows inside and managed to knock her HomePod off the table and straight into the bucket of water next to the desk. Fully submerged. I've lifted it out and put it in the airing cupboard where it's nice and warm and am planning to leave it there for a few days before tentatively trying to turn it on.

Has anyone got any bright ideas here, other than checking our home insurance for an accidental damage clause?

Hahaha. I hear you.

Not sure how long to give it "warming up" in the airing cupboard. Was thinking of leaving it until the weekend?

Be really careful. If there’s any residual water, that’s an electrocution hazard.

You make a fair point. It is a worry, for sure. I'll make sure I "socially distance" myself from it if I do have a go.

Perhaps I should just replace it. It'll cost me £150 (that's the policy excess on my home insurance).

I suggest leaving it for the few days stated and then leave it for a couple more.

If the device was plugged in when it fell the damage may have already been done if current was flowing.

If you’re lucky and water didn’t hit anything that would transport current at all, or until it was unplugged then if it’s fully dry the next time you turn it on, it should work fine.

Good luck!

Thank you for your advice. It happened a week ago today and it's been sitting in the airing cupboard since then. It was plugged in at the time as it was on the desk and "ready for use", however we noticed that after isolating the power and then removing it from the bucket there's been no water coming out of it since it's been left drying. Not a drop.

I may try it later today and see what happens... I'm going to socially distance myself from it when I turn it on!

Can you let us know how you got on please.

I left it in my airing cupboard for a week. It was on a tray and during the week I noticed that there wasn't any water on the tray at all. That seemed odd, as I would've expected some water to have slowly leaked out of the device while it was sitting there. Never the less, I tentatively plugged it in, turned the plug on and then asked Siri a question. She answered and the speaker itself seems none the worse for its impromptu swimming lesson.

Looking and listening to it now, you would have no idea that it had been dropped into a full bucket of water from desk height. It's quite remarkable that it survived the incident, to be honest. I was pleasantly gobsmacked!

So we have been using our backyard like never before as a vacation spot. Bought some new lounge chairs, got some outdoor dinnerware and glassware, bought a fifth HomePod, looking really nice.

In all my excitement to put away those lounge chairs and other niceties last Sunday I forgot to put away the HomePod that I had plugged in. Just yesterday, 7 days later, the sun came out and I set everything back up and oops....HomePod! Nooooo!

Quite a week to be left outside. The exterminator came to bait the carpenter ant traps. The lawn crew did a leaf blowing. Hot and sunny for a few days. And of course it rained for several days. “Hey Siri”.....and it works like a champ. Didn’t know it was water resistant. Now I know.

I would not call it water resistant. I would call it fortunate.

Are the marks on the top just from the water, or have you left the shipping film on it?

They were from the water. I didn't clean it before making the video so I could show it "warts and all". After I found it worked, I gave it a good clean and it came up like new!
