So i got my new homepods gen 2 today and when i listen to music via spotify, the base and sound is fine, but when i connect the same homepod to my apple tv4k and watch a movie on plex (or any other app on my apple tv) the bass in the movies are really low. i barely feel any explosions or fighting scene at all. even the tvs internal speakers (LG OLED) have more bass in movies than my homepods. the sound of voices etc are good tho, its only the bass that is really low.

ive checked the apple tv settings and tried to deactivate dolby atmos settings etc, but the apple tv doesnt allow me to change this (the section is grayed out and set to auto).

Ive tried these:

I have disabled the reduced sound

ive tried different movie apps, same thing with all of them.

ive tried a homepod reset.

Does anyone know what causing this? or how i can fix it?

Not much you can do. Maybe try to change the audio on ATV from auto/dolby, etc to stereo only. Stereo 'blends' more channels together vs dolby (atmos) which separates them so this might be why spotify sounds more bassy since most audio is recorded in stereo.

Can also check your Plex settings or find something with better audio quality source (e.g. blu ray) to try.

Try disable spatial audio?

There is also a setting in "Home" on "reduce bass", maybe check if it's enabled.

My apple tv 4k doesnt allow me to change sound to "stereo" its set to dolby atmos, and entire option is gray marked, so i cant change anything there

I’ve said this time and time again, it’s the spatial audio setting that’s borking the bass because there is no dedicated sub.

I finally paired my 2 original HomePods to use with my TV to determine if I wanted to get new ones. I haven't listened to anything over the top yet, but for basic stuff, I miss having a center channel. Been some time since I've only listened in just stereo.

Not much you can do, you're up against some basic laws of physics. If you're struggling to get a lot of bass out of such a small speaker and make it do the job of a subwoofer you're going to fail. All you can do is hope that someday Apple wises up and puts out a realistic home theater system, two Home Pods in front, two Minis and the rear and a sub (Sony already offers a similar setup. It's not cheap, but if you can afford it that would suit your needs a lot more than the Home Pods..

This probably isn’t going to help your situation, but for the record I’m using two HomePod minis in a stereo pair with the new Apple TV 4K and the bass is excellent ( for what it is).

I wasn't overly impressed with this setup. Wondering if using two new HomePods sounds better than two original ones.
