Anyone else find it interesting that the HomePod gen 2 has shipped with 16.0? I feel like that’s further proof this was meant to be released last year.

It’s typical for apple products to be a X.1 version behind at launch but being three X.1 versions behind stands out.

Yeah, that’s extremely weird I would say. Usually new products always come with the release that supports them.

I'm wondering what the build number of this audioOS 16.0 release is. I got the new HomePod and it's on 16.0 but I can't see the build number by tapping the version number like I normally would on iOS 7-15. Anyone know of a way to get past this? Edit: The build number is 20J8378.

I'm actually keeping my HomePod on 16.0 so that in the future, if and when a HomePod jailbreak becomes available, I can dump the firmware and archive it, as there is no OTA update bundle available for this version. Such a jailbreak may need to have a wireless method of installation, as from what I can tell there is no connector on the outside of the HomePod that allows for data transfer. You may also be able to open up the HomePod, take out the logic board, desolder the NAND flash chips, use them to build an improvised SSD, hook it up to a computer, and dump the firmware that way. Edit: That wouldn't work since the storage is built into the S7 SiP.
