Best Buy is discounting Apple's second generation HomePod to $269.99 this week, down from $299.00. This deal is available in both Midnight and White color options, and right now we're only tracking a discount at Best Buy.

Discounts on the HomePod have been extremely rare, with the last notable discount occurring in the summer of 2024, over a year ago. Today's deal isn't an all-time low price, but considering the infrequency of HomePod sales, it's a solid sale for anyone on the market for the smart speaker.

You can find all the Apple Black Friday Deals currently available in our dedicated post. For everything else, we're keeping track of the season's best Apple-related deals in our Black Friday roundup, so be sure to check back throughout the month for an updated list of all the most notable discounts you'll find for Black Friday 2025.

I got my HomePod about two years ago, maybe less, when Verizon of all places put it on sale for $179 for like one day. I kick myself for not buying two!

I guess they are trying to move the HomePod, since they have limited stock of the HomePod Mini.

They are absolutely going to get closed out at a lower price down the road.
These are great with an AppleTV and Projector on your roof so you can get Atmos for movies on your wall! All wirelessly... it's a steal at the point!
Atmos from 2 speakers... despite multiple drivers.

Anyone jumping in for this really should wait for the next AppleTV to see if they support true Atmos with multiple HomePods.

I use HomePods for AppleTV Audio and like them but there are limits and it is not a 'true' Atmos system, since there is no surround.

AirPods Max do a better job than 2 HomePods spatially.

edit: Amazon has no stock of these.

Apple used Best Buy to close out OG HomePods, I suspect this is what's happening now with the 2nd gen areas of whatever new stuff is coming.

What kind of “future” are you concerned about?
One where Apple stops offering OS updates and official support, which we've seen happen. As others have said, without an alternative way to send music, these things are just big blocks sitting on your shelf. Even an iPod HiFi can still put out quality music two decades later thanks to a simple AUX input.

Yup. Waiting for the usual Open Box Mini's for 50/each deal that usually drops around this time of year to outfit the tv in the second bedroom.

Support. Without a standard bluetooth or Aux in option they are only usable until Apple decides not to support them anymore.

How soon are you imagining Apple is going to stop allowing Airplay to send music to these? There is no reason they would just cut off any ability to wirelessly send music to them.

I would not worry about AirPlay being cut off from the OG HomePod, considering an old 2004 AirPort Express 1st gen is still capable to AirPlay to an external speaker.
2nd gen even has AirPlay 2 and can be added to the Home app.

It doesn't matter. The point is that the decision on when it becomes useless is in their court, not ours. They might support them for a very long time, sure. But they could also drop support quickly. Sure, historically they haven't but aren't we looking at a potential change of CEO soon from the rumors? You don't know what the new guy is going to push for.

I mean if you think that way, every or almost every product will loose support at some point in time, Windows XP, 7,10, etc.

So the new CEO is going to go hard anti consumer and start rendering various products sold to their customers obsolete. That’s quite a theory you got there.

Listen, I get the argument about buying products that could be made obsolete, and I would agree if we’re talking about some start up company where you’re relying on their servers for example, but Apple intentionally disabling a product like the HomePod just because, is dabbling in crazy conspiracy theory territory.

It is not. It's what companies do when they run out of easy ways to make more money. They squeeze it out of you by making things obsolete so you can buy the new one. That happens all the time with other companies and if you think Apple is immune to that then you are blind. Just because they haven't done it 'yet' doesn't mean they won't. I like to own my products, not effectively rent them.

Yep! I got 4 from that deal ($174.99 actually) and 20% cashback as I recall. Set up two rooms of stereo.

It’s funny though because these second gens are definitely dated, with rubbish Wi-Fi chips and inferior microphone sensitivity than the OG HomePod. I’m not as big a fan as I wanted to be of them. Apple cheaped out.

Got ours for less from Verizon a few years ago when they had them on sale for like 1 day only.

It sucks so bad though, our OG big HomePod worked great and always heard us. Gen 2 never hears us, especially if music is playing. I hoped things would improve with software updates but it hasn't.

Yep. There’s fewer microphones in the gen 2 and it’s clearly inferior because of it. Drives me insane how loud I have to yell at Siri for her to do anything. The gen 1 was so much better.
