I was looking to pickup a HomePod mini to go along with my Mac Mini. As I’m hoping I can use it for some music too with my phone etc seamlessly which I can’t do with my current Bluetooth speaker.

However I’m aware from research there’s an issue with audio delay when using a HomePod mini with Mac.

I don’t use any system sounds at all, so that is irrelevant to me, but I have seen that apparently there is audio syncing for media.

Is this only Apple apps? Will YouTube videos for example have synced audio and video? Or will there be a delay?

When you select a HomePod as the audio output for the Mac, everything you display on the screen is shown in sync with the HomePod.
But if you are playing media, from QT, iMovie,FCP or YT then there is a couple of seconds delay once you press Play before you hear anything.
Also the same delay before the video/audio stops after you press Pause/Stop.

It's fine for watching YT etc, but not good for video editing etc.

I had a HomePod mini with my M1 Mac mini. I got annoyed with the paused between starting a YouTube video and the audio coming on, it is in sync but it has to pause to get everything synced. Also the connection dropped every time my Mac went to sleep so you had to re-connect it as the audio output each time.

I no longer use my HomePod mini with my Mac
