I currently have a bunch of HomeKit devices. The hub is an AppleTV. I am debating getting a HomePod mini. If I do that, how would I switch the hub to the HomePod? Is it even worthwhile to do so?

Appletv is a better home hub, especially if your appletv is wired to your network via ethernet, but even without since it's faster and has better wifi.

That said by default homekit will automatically pick a home hub transparently so if you dont want to think about it you probably dont have to. If you have reliability issues though I'd force the AppleTV to be the hub.

The AppleTV is not using wired ethernet, but all this stuff is on an isolated WiFi mesh.

As long as all your devices are updated to iOS/TVOS 18, there is a new feature that lets you select the preferred hub. You can can also allow the system to automatically select the hub.

I concur with seek3r though. The AppleTV is a much better hub. HomePod of any model is terrible and the reason Apple finally gave in and allowed us to select our hub. Many complaints and backlash by the HomeKit community prompted this move by Apple because it would auto select a HomePod instead of the better option- AppleTV.

Thanks, this is useful. I had no concept that the AppleTV would be the preferred or superior solution.
