Hey,

I currently have 4 google home minis (1 per space) that I use to control my smart home, get cooking help and listen to music while I work out. In the past they've work good, but since moving to Apple Music the hand off process for music is kind of convoluted, long and doesn't work well, not to mention my GF who isn't tech savvy has a hard time getting it to work and is frustrated by it.

So my idea was to sell the google nest minis and buy apple HomePod minis, but I read online the U1 chip is required for things like handoff which means I may be in the exact same place as I was with the nest minis. (we have both have the iPhone X)

My question then is, is the Apple Music or Spotify hand off to the speakers a very simple one click process? Does the hand off still work?

Thanks,
Jake

HomePods can be selected for your audio output regardless of where in the home you're located. The handoff is also very well implemented when you are nearby one of them.

My suggestion is this - why not order one of the HomePod mini speakers, and give it a try? If you are not satisfied with how it functions, you can return it. If you are, then you can take the next step and get a few more and replace the google speakers entirely.

The HomePod has it's own connection to Apple Music via your wifi. you don't need your phone to make it play. you can just tell the HomePod to play something. Alternately you can use Airplay to send your music from any iPhone to the HomePod.
