The mini Homepod looks to be a valid solution to a house-wide intercom. By that, I mean one that can actually be understood by a listening human. Every wireless solution (a lot of them) that I have tried has turned out to be crap, with a listener needing a trained “radio ear” to understand the garble that comes from the box. Can’t count the number of times I have finally given up and climbed the stairs to ask what my wife was trying to say.
At $99 per pop, it would be kind of expensive, but I have spent far more on junk over the years than would be required to cover the important rooms of my house with a mini.
Waiting for the release so I can test one with my big Homepod.

From what I read, it will be the voice of the speaker coming over the intercom and not Siri so it will likely be a recording that is transmitted. Hopefully the recording will be top quality which I can’t see it not. The HomePods mics are excellent. I regularly take a shower with music blaring on the HomePod and Siri could still pick up my voice.

It is indeed the person speaking which is the voice you hear on the HomePod. So far i have tested it to ask the wife to bring a cup of tea to me in the study. She wasn’t amused!

How’s the audio quality of the voice?

You already have a mini? You are a developer, maybe?
