I recently update my HomePod mini to 15.1. The unit will output "lossless" audio but will not output "Dolby Atoms" audio. I have reset the HomePod mini and verified it is on the same network as my phone. Any thoughts?
Thanks.

I can play my HomePod mini in Dolby Atmos using our Apple TV 4K 2G. Not something I normally do when we have OG Homepods. Gives hope that the HomePod mini may have a standalone option one day like the OG HomePod just got.

The Minis do not support Atmos with the Apple TV either. Thats a UI bug of tvOS that currently cannot differentiate between the OG Homepods and the Minis.

But Apple its clear in its support document.

  • "HomePod mini doesn't support Dolby Atmos, 5.1, or 7.1 surround sound".
Audio tech like spatial awareness and beamforming, plus seven tweeters around a 360º cone, help to virtualize surround sound.

The Minis lacks any of this, hence the lack of support.

Its a hardware limitation.

Homepod mini definitely plays dolby atmos when playing music from Apple Music.
i don't know about movies since my minis are in my home office and there's no apple tv there to test out
but for music i can definitely hear it. Even if it's not indicated in the music app. Maybe it's a bug but i tell you it works
i can instantly differentiate between lossless and dolby atmos. I also have a pair of Homepod Og's and can clearly hear the difference between lossless and dolby. That's playing music directly thru the minis no Apple tv involve. both on 15.1
