So I have been using my HomePod Mini daily for a few months not. I have never been so flustered with a product before. On one hand, I love the white noise automation that I use (when it works), but on the other I have to reset it all the time. Some of the most common issues I have had are listed as below:

~Volume being all the way down automatically when I put a song to ‘play next’
~automations not working
~siri not responding
~when I touch the volume button, Siri activates and starts playing different music. (It was the radio this morning for some reason)
~popping noise when used for long periods of time as my Apple TV speaker

I find myself hoping that every software update will fix at least one of these issues, but so far nothing. I am running on HomeOS 16.3.2 currently. I would love to get more HomePods, but so long as they will go against Apple’s motto of “it just works” I don’t think I will.

HomePod mini is effectively still in beta.

I’m not sure when it happened but I can no longer set automation to have a song from my own music library play when I come home. I can select from Apple Music, which I don’t subscribe to, or Ambient Sounds.

Interested in just the one HomePod Mini if it does what I want.
I dont need it to use Siri or talk to the Home app.
Just need it to connect to a Sony 4K tv for a some oomph in the sound department.
Maybe occasionally connect to my laptop when playing Spotify tunes.

Apple store guy says it can...but wanted to ask a larger sample size.

You can connect it to the TV if you have an Apple TV and you can use it as a speaker for a Mac, but if you use anything else your SOL I’m afraid

Thanks for your perspective...I asked the sales boy at Apple store and he assured me it would connect
to a Sony TV without any apple device being used as an interface. Hmmm....I trust the gang here more, I have to say.

Id connect it to your Mac and reset it completely and start from scratch. I have 2 minis and they work just fine.
