I went to make sure that my headphones are connected, and imagine my surprise, I saw both of my Homepod Minis in the list. I've never seen them before, and they don't show up in my iPhone, but there they are. Is this a sign of things to come? I can only hope, although I'm not holding my breath.

Trying to connect to them doesn't work, so it's not really useful in any meaningful way, but it's a baby step. Or a bug ;)

The Homepods (both OG and Minis) HAVE bluetooth, it just not enabled for audio streaming. But they do have a bluetooth chip/antenna.

Honestly, bluetooth recompresses the audio, so Wi-Fi (what they currently use), is much better to preserve audio quality.

Although having bluetooth AAC (good enough sound quality), would be nice. It would make the Homepod much more compatible.
