Guys:

I have a HomePod in the living room and a HomePod mini in my office. When I ask the HomePod in the living room to play music, it shows up on my iPhone what the current song is. Same with the HomePod mini. But I’m sure it didn’t used to do this.

Why it’s irritating is that my partner often does a work out in the living room whilst listening to music, but if I’m upstairs and I want to listen to my iPhone or from my iPhone to my HomePod mini, because my phone is showing what’s playing downstairs, I cut off the music from there and then start playing my music downstairs, so I have to wait for him to finish or I just ask my HomePod mini to play whatever song it is I want to listen to rather than sending it over AirPlay.

Is there a way to turn OFF this ‘feature’? I don’t want it to always be showing me what is playing on the HomePod.

I’m not too sure if I’m making sense here but it’s driving me crazy.

It’s a convenient feature of AirPlay 2. It gives you controls on your phone so you don’t have to bark commands at Siri. To change back to controls on your iPhone, enter the control center (can also be done form the Apple Music app), click the AirPlay icon and then at the bottom should be “Control other speakers and TVs.” Click on that and then click on iPhone to bring up your iPhone media. I get that it could be confusing if you’re not used to it but it’s actually a very nice feature once you get the hang of it. I currently have nine HomePods, four Minis and six AppleTVs so it makes managing media on all these devices easy.

Also, if you’re currently on one of the HomePods, it will show all your AirPlay speakers and TVs in a list. If you click on another speaker in that list, it will play the media to both speakers.
