So,
I have an M1 iMac and 2 minis that I use as primary with it. They are setup as a pair in stereo. I also have 2 HomePod gen2s as a stereo setup in another room along with a few more mins around the house. My network is the Google Mesh with wired points all over the house in bridge mode.
One irritating issue I've had on my iMac is that, somewhat frequently or occasionally, it will "play" to the Minis, but there's no sound.
The video or audio will even pause to makeup for the typical latency, and then it will "play" but no sound from the Minis. However, the Minis will light up like they're playing... so they "think" they're playing. It's odd.
I find that after this happens, the same issue will happen if I switch to other HomePods in the house. They light up, but no sound.
The only fix I found at first was a reboot of the iMac. Rebooting the HomePods never fixed it. Also the HomePods would play sound from other devices, so I figured it's a Bug in Ventura on my iMac.
Rebooting is annoying AF.
I then found that if it went to sleep with a hot-corner it would fix it... but only if asleep for a few minutes or more... I guess it truly had to get to sleep. Then... I tried something new. I disconnected the hard-wire network connection and went to WiFi only on my iMac.
BOOM. No more issues with the HomePods. WTF?!
So, I lose some of the benefits of a hard wire, but it's not anything I notice. Just annoying.
Posting here in case others have a similar challenge or maybe some thoughts on why a hard wired connection would do this?
Thanks.
