Have a 13" macbook pro. Want to hook it up to a 42" hdtv so I can sit on my couch with a wireless mouse/keyboard and use the tv as a big monitor.

What's my best (i.e. cheapest) way to hook it up to the tv (with stuff I can get at bestbuy?

An hdmi cable, then a hdmi to minidisplay adaptor. You can collectively get both for around 10-20usd on amazon.

I think so - the mini-dp should also have a usb plug necessary for the audio to transfer of HDMI; at least the one I have does.

monoprice.com I think they even have a mini-display --> HDMI...best website for inexpensive cables...
