I need a setup that displays the macbook pro 15" + 1st External Monitor + 2nd External Monitor, all separate and usable monitors. Both external monitors accept HDMI input and DVI. I was planning on buying up 3 thunderbolt monitors (and selling my current ones) - but I may wait until an update arrives as I'm hearing rumors that one may be on the horizon - and just settle for 2 externals that I own for now.

My initial thought is to just use one TB port on the macbook pro (using a TB > HDMI adapter)to monitor 1's HDMI input, and the HDMI port on the macbook pro to monitor 2's HDMI input. This, to me, is the cheapest / easiest solution for now - until I can find a really nice thunderbolt 2 dock that supports several monitors.

Will this work, and give me 2 external displays plus the macbook pro display (3 displays total)? I know there are a million guides on this, but most of what I have seen they use crazy amount of adapters that seem pretty overkill.

Thanks
