Hooking Macbook Pro to iMac

Is there absolutely no way to hook up a macbook pro to a 21" iMac and use it as an external monitor?

I have a similar same need. Looking to use the new 21.5 iMac as a second monitor for the new white macbook. http://www.screenrecycler.com/ScreenRecycler.html would do the job?

Would a software fix allow DVI input on the 21.5 iMac or it's a hardware limitation? 27 inch iMac has it.

It is a hardware limitation, not software.
