Hooking up 5.1 speakers to iMac

Hi!

I want to help my father hooking up a set of 5.1 speakers to his iMac. The speakers have these 3 plugs Orange, Lime and Black.

Model: This is the iMac model

This is the back of the iMac.

I assume I need some sort of adapter, but didn't find anything where I could plug those 3 plugs into. - Any products you would recommend?

In a pinch just plug in the green one. If there is a digital input on the speakers (optical or Spdif) get the cable for that. Or get an external USB sound card that has the separate analog line-outs. Or get new speakers.

FYI. If the speakers have optical in, here is the adapter you would need. The iMac's headphone out port is actually also an optical out port (check that this applies to your model).

I'll get an external USB soundcard since the speakers have no optical in.

And plugging just the green one didn't work? If i'm correct those are Creative Speakers and I have a 2.1 from that company and I just plug the green one into my Airport express and I can play music from my Mac without an issue!
