Horizontal Scrolling in Calendar with Normal Mouse

I have a standard 3-button mouse.

I hate how the buttons next to the Today button go by a week instead of one day in Week view.

My mouse doesn't have a horizontal scroll feature and Shift-Scroll doesn't work for horizontal scroll. Also have tried to use USB Overdrive to set a keyboard shortcut to horizontal scroll but it doesn't work either.

Any ideas on how to get horizontal scroll working?

Alternatively, does anyone know how to permanently show the horizontal scrollbar?
