I've had my 13inch MBP for almost 3 months now. I love it.

However within the past month and a half the hard drive on when I press the button for the laptop to turn on makes a horrible sound. A mechanical sound of the hard drive..turning on or starting up or something. It's like, kinda embarassing to turn it on in public cause it sounds like a disabled electronic robot baby yelling for help.

I'm wondering, what can be done?

When I first got my MBP when it turned on it did not make a noise at all. at all. but now all of a sudden it does?

And let me tell you, when I had my original white macbook from 2006-early 2009 it began making the same noise in like mid-07. Therefore I know i'm not the only one to have ever heard this noise before.

Any words, advice or news you can give me regarding this?

It's the optical drive checking if theres a disc.

All Macs with slot-loading drives make the noise, some louder than others.

Why would you turn of the computer?
I reboot mine once a month, else I just sleep it.
Mine have made that noise since day one, but I really never thought anything about.

If it's ''dee dee doowidoo''. Then I have the same thing.

Hahahahaha! Perfect sound effect of it. Spot on.

Ohhhh... I have been wondering for years if it was a sign of the HD failing. Lol. :)

Energy saving, maybe?

Are you sure this noise is normal ? Hard drives about to die do some weird sounds too... careful ! But I don't want to throw you in a panic. Just be sure to have a backup drive in case of.

its a COMPLETELY normal thing.. i would just get used to it and move on.
