I have compared a MacBook Pro 16" with M1 Pro cpu and 32GB RAM with a MacBook Pro 16" with M4 Max and 36GB RAM.
The m1 Mac was on Mac os 14.7.6 and the M4 was on Mac os 15.6.1.
I compared the function merge to HDR panorama in Lightroom Classic (latest available version).
The m1p is twice as fast as the m4m.
I then compared with another m1 on Mac oS 15.6.1 and results are similar to the m4u.
Isn't this unacceptable?
All three machines on USB-C power and fully charged while testing.

I haven't done any timing, but I've noticed that LR (latest) is all-around slower on 15.6 and 15.6.1 than on earlier versions. I use it every day, so I'm sensitive to how it performs.

Oops. Forgot to say what I'm running: M2 Max Studio with 64 gb RAM.

Definitely have noticed that with the latest OS update 15.6.1 that things are crawling. I've got a mini m4 pro and it's like I have an old 2012 mini.

Interesting as there is no MacBook Pro 16" M1 (there is M1 Pro or M1 Max) and there is no MacBook Pro 16" M4 Ultra (there is M4 Pro or M4 Max). So exactly what are you comparing?

The original 16" M series where available in M1 pro and M1 max, mine is a M1 pro. The M4 is a M4 Max, nothing else. Thank you for pointing it out. I have edited the original post to reflect the proper CPU names.
