So this evening while trying to d/l and install MyWi I somehow hosed my JB 3.1.2 iPhone. It will not even boot up so I know I need to restore it via DFU mode. My question is, anyway to keep from losing 3.1.2 in the process?

Thanks
David.

Download the correct 3.1.2 firmware from here if you haven't already.
Go into iTunes and on the summary page, hold the shift button and click restore at the same time, and then load the proper firmware.
The rest is the same from there.

Hope this helps.

That would work for a 2G and a 3G iphone but for the 3GS it gets more complicated when SHSH's come into play....

From the looks of it he has a regular 3G iPhone. I'm pretty sure I've been in this instance as well and it worked on my 3GS iPhone, but i'm not 100% positive. Can you explain the SHSH situation?

I'm sorry guys, I do have the 3G.

I'm a cop working the streets tonight and its been hard getting back into the forums.

So to confirm, with the 3G, I should be able to restore to 3.1.2. After I get 3.1.2 back on, can I do a restore from backup in order to get my messages, contacts and such back?

Thanks again
David

Yes, with the 3G, you will be able to restore to 3.1.2, restore from a backup, and jailbreak with redsn0w.

Thanks Nick. I get off in about 30 minutes and hope to try it when I get home. But to clarify one thing. You state "hold the shift button". Is that with a Windows, Mac or both? I have a Mac so I just wanna make it's the same key either way.

Thanks
David

Question re this site. If one has upgraded to 3.1.3 from a JB phone can they restore to 3.1.2 with the proper firmware?

I have a couple of friends that have accidentally upgraded their JB phones to 3.1.3.

Thanks
