I have two questions about my recently bought second-hand Powerbook G4.

1. Is there a possibility to turn on the system fan by hand? My Powerbook (400 MHz) did never turn the fan on, even not after one hour of watching DVD or DivX movies. Sometimes, when under heavy load, the cooler under the keyboard gets pretty hot, but the fan did never turn on!!! (The machine didn't crash, at least...)
Is it normal? If the fan is dead, does the system have any overheating-protection? Is there a way to find it out without sending it to Apple? (There is no more warranty and a check would be pretty expensive, I suppose).

2. Old Macs did log the amout of hours they were running into PRAM and it was possible to find out how "exploited" the Mac was. Is it still possible in a Powerbook G4? If yes, how can I check it?

Thanx for help
