Just traded in my 12 for a 17. Whe I put it on an Anker magsafe charger that I've used for several years with the 12, the 17 gets HOT. So hot that sometimes it won't charge until it cools down. I have an ESR clear case on it, same one as was on the 12. Latest iOS.
