Is there any way to put the screen to sleep prior to the given time in energy saver? I have it set to 10 minutes there but there are times when i want the screen to sleep right away.

Cheers,
Peter

...like when the parents walk into your room for example :p

I too find the hot corners useful for the screensaver or putting the display to sleep.

Perhaps I'm dumb (I wouldn't doubt it), but how do you set hot corners to go to sleep? I have hot corners set to make the screen saver kick in, but sometimes I would rather the computer go to sleep instead.

Sleeping the computer is not one of the Hot Corner options. Sleeping the display is though.

You can download a small app-package called 'Dockables', which you can launch either from the dock or from Quicksilver. Pretty handy when you want to eject all of your disks before sleeping the laptop and taking it to work. I just don't seem to be able to make it work with Automator... :(

I would like a hotkey to lock my Mac. Having to grab the mouse and move it to a corner to start the screensaver is more of a PITA. I have a Mac and a PC at my work desk and have to lock them numerous times all day. Locking the PC is much easier and faster.

What I said.

If you really want it to go to sleep, press the Power key, and select sleep from the dialog box. I think you can press a key to select "Sleep" from the dialog box too, so you don't have to use your mose...

Of course you could also just select Sleep from the Apple menu...

The fastest way to put the computer to sleep is to....

  1. Press the power button
  2. Hit the letter "s" on the keyboard... which will select the sleep option on the pop-up diologue box

So, it is just 2 buttons,,,,, power, then the letter s on the keyboard.

Enjoy!

But not when running in clamshelled mode. Then it's kind of a PITA... ;)

joegolike and his:

Sleep immediately (no confirmation): Cmd-Opt-Eject
Put display to sleep: Ctrl-Shift-Eject

is much easier :)

Thing is, even though I am not using my MBP in clamshell I still need to move my hand all the way to the right because it's hooked up to my external display :)
